๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฎ is in the process of ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด its capital city from ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ to a new location, “๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฒ๐ผ”.
The main reasons for shifting are that Jakarta, which is located on a coast that is prone to natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis, and it is sinking fast because of excessive groundwater extraction and is also one of the world’s most densely populated cities with over 10 million people, and because of issues like overcrowding, traffic, and environmental problems.
The new capital city will be built from scratch and is expected to be more sustainable, modern, and resilient to natural disasters. The government has already set aside $๐๐ ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ผ๐ป for the project, which it plans to complete by 2024.
The island of Borneo, which is strategically located in the center of Indonesia and has abundant natural resources. The move will have a significant impact on Indonesia’s economic and political landscape as it will lead to the development of a new city and the relocation of the central government offices, businesses, and residents from Jakarta to the new location. It is also expected to create new job opportunities and boost the economic growth of the region.
Though Indonesian officials promised to build a “sustainable forest city” that puts the environment at the heart of the development and aims to be carbon neutral by 2045, the relocation of the capital city to a new location on the island of Borneo will have a range of environmental impacts. The construction of new infrastructure and buildings will require significant land clearing and deforestation, which can have serious consequences for the natural environment and the species that depend on it.
Moreover, the decision to relocate the capital city may lead to further urbanization and population growth in the region, placing additional pressure on natural resources and ecosystems. This can lead to further environmental degradation, such as soil erosion, water pollution, and habitat destruction.
Although the relocation of the capital city may provide opportunities for economic growth and development, it is important to carefully consider and mitigate the environmental impacts of such a project to ensure a sustainable future.
