History
According to local mythology, Taudaha Lake is said to have been created when Manjushri, a revered Buddhist figure, pierced the valley’s water, causing it to flow out and form the lake. This act allegedly angered Karkotak Nagraj, a serpent king residing in the area. However, peace was eventually established between Manjushri and Nagraj, cementing the lake’s connection to these mythical beings.
Taudaha Lake is also associated with the annual Rato Machhindranath Procession, an important religious event in the Kathmandu Valley. The procession involves the display of a stolen jewel-encrusted vest known as the Bhoto. The story goes that a Jyapu, a member of the agricultural community, possessed the Bhoto, which was later stolen from him. This led to a battle between the Jyapu and the thief, witnessed by Rato Machhindranath. To settle the dispute, Rato Machhindranath ordered them to return with proof, while the Bhoto remained with the procession. This tradition continues to this day, adding to the cultural heritage of Taudaha.

How to get there
