The Ministry of Home Affairs said during a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Sunday that Nepal had taken steps to deport 459 foreign people in 2023. According to Department Director-General Rudra Singh Tamang, there were 559 removals in 2017, 678 in 2018, 671 in 2019, 332 in 2020, 308 in 2021, and 570 in 2022. The deportations were made for a variety of reasons.
Tamang emphasized the challenges stemming from unclear visa fee regulations for non-resident Nepali citizens of foreign origin. Additionally, the department issued 17 directives, resulting in the repatriation of 6,132 Nepali citizens from airports in 2023.
