
Yesterday in Wellington, Deputy Prime Minister and New Zealand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), Winston Peters, and Foreign Affairs Minister Narayan Prakash Saud held a bilateral meeting.
According to the Nepalese Embassy in Australia, the meeting resulted in both parties expressing satisfaction with the excellent condition of bilateral relations between Nepal and New Zealand and exchanging thoughts on how to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The New Zealand Minister for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister hosted a luncheon that the Minister attended.
The Minister went to see the New Zealand Parliament in the afternoon and attended Question Time. The speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, Gerry Brownlee, recognized his presence in the Parliament.
An interactive program with the Minister and the visiting team was arranged in Wellington by the Nepali Society and the Honorary Consul of Nepal to New Zealand. Discussions were held around how to better serve the Nepali community in New Zealand by offering passport and consular services and how to leverage the knowledge, experience, and abilities of Nepalis living there for the good of the nation.
In addition, the Minister saw the huge number of cultural treasures at Te Papa Tongarewa, New Zealand’s national museum.
Earlier in the morning, the Second edition of Nepal-New Zealand Foreign Ministry Consultation (FMC) was held among senior officials of both the Ministries.
Rita Dhital, Joint Secretary, South East Asia and the Pacific (SEAP) Division and Joanna Kempkers, Divisional Manager South Asia and South East Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand led their respective delegations.
The delegation from New Zealand was made up of Mary Thurston, Unit Manager, and April Kwak, Nepal Desk Officer of the South and South East Asia Division. The delegation from Nepal was composed of Kailash Raj Pokharel, Ambassador of Nepal, and Komal Baral, Section Officer, SEAP Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal.
The two sides discussed ways to advance collaboration by enhancing economic and cultural ties between their two nations and evaluated many facets of their bilateral relations during the meeting.
On Tuesday, Minister Saud arrived in Wellington, New Zealand. At the airport, he was greeted by leaders of the Nepali community as well as MFAT officials and Dinesh Khadka, the Honorary Consul of Nepal to New Zealand.
Concluding a successful visit to Australia and New Zealand, the Foreign Minister and the delegation will depart for Kathmandu on 15 February.
