The Pashupatinath Area Development Trust (PADT) is preparing for the celebration of the Hindu god Shiva, known as Mahashivaratri. This year’s festival takes place on March 8. People who follow Shiva, called Sadhus, and other devoted followers are coming to the Pashupatinath area for the festival.
To honor the festival, PADT has decided to stop selling meat and alcohol around the temple area starting tomorrow, Wednesday. This decision is made to respect the sanctity of the occasion.
Today, the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, issued a notice regarding the ban on the supply of meat products in specific areas: east from the Gaushala Mitrapark roadway, west from the east border of the Pashupati area, north from the Gaushala Tilganga ring road, and the entire southern area from Guheshwori via Mitrapark-Umakund-Gaurighat.
Until March 10, it is illegal to sell meat or alcohol near the Pashupatinath Temple. This is a sign of appreciation for the Hindu holiday of Mahashivaratri and its significance. During this time, people cannot sell, buy, or consume alcohol or meat near the temple.
The Pashupatinath Area Development Trust is getting the temple area ready for the festival by decorating it. They expect around two million people to visit the temple for Mahashivaratri this year.
They’ve made all the necessary arrangements for devotees to worship conveniently. However, this year, there won’t be any special passes required to enter the temple for Mahashivaratri.
