The ExtraTech Legend Cup competition is all set to kick off on Falgun 28 at the ExtraTech Oval Ground in Tilottama. The ground has been constructed on private land in Purvadarkhaswam of Tilottama Municipality-17.
The tournament will feature four teams: Legends 96, Rest of Nepal, World Cup 2014, and Rupandehi Legends. Yeti Airlines is the main sponsor, alongside a Jersey Partner. The field, inaugurated on Jestha 29, is still under construction, with plans to accommodate up to 25,000 spectators once completed.
Vinod Kunwar, the director of ExtraTech Oval Field, aims to build a pavilion and ensure a suitable playing field within a year. The president, Hari Thapa, envisions international cricket matches taking place in Rupandehi district, including matches from the Rupandehi district league.
Legends 96 will include 12 players from Nepal’s first international cricket team in 1996. The Rest of Nepal team will be led by Vinod Das and will include players like Sanjeev Joshi and Lalbahadur Adhikari. Four players from Nepal’s first women’s cricket team in 2007 will also participate.
The semifinals will feature Legends 96 vs. World Cup 2014 and Rest of Nepal vs. Rupandehi Legends, with the winners advancing to the final match.
Rajen Maharjan, the official distributor of Nepal’s jersey partner, expressed his excitement for producing jerseys locally. Sanjay Gurung, president of the Lumbini Cricket Association, hopes for more support from Rupandehi. Prashant Vikram Mall highlighted the need for improvements in Siddhartha Cricket Ground, leading to the establishment of the ExtraTech Oval.
