The Tourist Police Nepal and the Tourist Guide Association of Nepal (TURGAN) are making sure that tourist guides have the right licenses.
TURGAN is checking the licenses of tourist guides in the historic areas of Kathmandu. They’ve asked all guides to renew their licenses if needed.
They’re also telling guides to only take tourists around if they show their license cards and have reminded everyone to check their guides’ licenses. They’re asking travel and trekking companies to only hire licensed guides for tours in Nepal.
Some guides who don’t have licenses are working as tour guides, while licensed guides are struggling to find work. That’s why the association is checking licenses very carefully.
The Tourist Police and the association have been checking licenses in Boudha, Basantapur, and Pashupatinath.
