Snowfall has swept across Humla district, significantly affecting daily life as plunging temperatures grip the region. Lokesh Bohara, a health worker at Halji health post in Namkha rural municipality-6, reported snow accumulation of approximately one foot in the district’s northern areas, notably in the lower belt along with Simkot. This intense cold has hindered movement and caused discomfort among locals.
The adverse weather has disrupted air services, leaving passengers stranded in Simkot. Approximately four inches of snowfall has been recorded in this area, impacting travel plans for those trying to leave the district. However, farmers view the snowfall with optimism, anticipating positive effects on crops like wheat, barley, and others.
In a separate instance, Mustang experienced its inaugural snowfall of the season, commencing Monday morning. Ram Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer, confirmed snowfall throughout the region, including Jomsom, the district headquarters. Despite the weather, offices remain open, and transportation services are operational.
While the cold snap has affected daily routines, farmers are delighted by the precipitation. Drought had previously threatened crops and vegetables, but the recent snowfall offers hope for their revival. Adhikari expressed optimism, stating that this long-awaited snowfall is expected to foster crop growth, particularly benefiting agriculture after a period of cloudy yet rainless weather.
