Markhu
A dam lake called the Marku Kulekhani is situated south of the Kathmandu valley. The area is known for its beautiful views of its sizable dam reservoir. Markhu is such an area that impresses visitors with its stunning landscape, Indrasarovar Lake, and the local community’s kindness. Boating is another activity made enjoyable by the dam. The Markhu is around 40 kilometers distant from Kathmandu. The area is well known for its biking and trekking trails that go from Chandragiri Hill. Visitors may take in the scenery and relax there. To fully enjoy the overnight visit, guests may also stay there in resorts.
One of the main reasons to visit this environmental beauty was because of a specific waterfall, Mohini Jharana, which has recently received a lot of attention on social media.
How to Get there
There are two ways to reach the Markhu Kulekhani. The first one comes from the Thankot and Chitlang route, while the second one comes from the Pharping route. The trip is both adventurous and around 40 kilometers long. Camping, boating, picnics, and dates are popular activities. There is a public vehicle to reach Markhu from Kathmandu from Balkhu (Chameli Travels Bus) you can find the public bus which leaves KTM at 7:30 am and will reach Markhu by 11:30 am, The same bus leaves Markhu to KTM at 2:00 Pm (Rs. 160 Transportation Fare by Public Bus). you can also use a private vehicle. To get there, tourists can rent a vehicle or a bicycle.
We must cross through Chandragiri Hill coming from Thankot. It is necessary to pass through Fakhel if you are traveling along the Pharping Dakshinkali route. Visitors use this more frequently than they use the other one.
Why Markhu
Mohini Jharana
Mohini Waterfall is located in Markham, Kulekhani, it is also referred to as Thadokhola Jharana and Kulekhani Jharana. This is regarded as the greatest location close to the Kathmandu Valley to enjoy a day off or the weekend with friends and family. This magnificent waterfall is surrounded by stunning vegetation and animals, and it gives tourists the impression of being in a natural swimming pool. It is located southwest of Kathmandu in the core region between Hetauda (almost 50 KM) and Kathmandu (nearly 60 KM). Many domestic and international tourists visit this location on a weekly basis to take in the beauty of this site, or to put it another way, a wonderful gift from nature.
Kulekhani Dam
A man-made dam called Kulekhani, also known as Indrasarovar, was built with the goal of producing energy, but it also offers a distinctive environment and natural beauty that attracts many people all year long. The stunning view from the top of the dam side catches our hearts when we first see Kulekhani Lake. Kulekhani Lake/Dam replaces Fewa Lake for the people of Kathmandu and the Hetauda people. The Pharping-Phakhel highway is the road that brings the Kulekhani dam to Markhu. The road heading to the left will take you to the Kulekhani Dam, which is protected by the Nepal Army after you get to Kalanki (not in Kathmandu, but in Kulekhani). From the dam side, no pictures or films are permitted.
Chitlang
Chitlang is the old Newari village from Lichchavi Period. Among Chitlang’s main attractions is the village itself, old Newari houses, artwork, architecture, stupas, and chaityas. On the way to Chitlang, one of the earliest goat cheese factories in Nepal is located here. These days, Chitlang is one of the most popular vacation spots for Nepalis. Hundreds of travelers arrived in Chitlang on both weekends and weekdays. Chitlang is hidden away in a beautiful, green forest that is popular for its naturalistic beauty. Visitors to Chitlang can eat organic foods while on their trip here.
Bheda Farm
Bheda Farm (goat farm) is a must-visit location if you’re visiting Markhu or Chitlang. Especially in the Spring season, it is really beautiful. The hill is covered with green grass and can be reached from Markhu in about 30 minutes. Driving or hiking there are both options one can take while visiting here. it takes 10 minutes from Markhu to Bheda farm by driving. The place is wonderful to visit and enjoy in nature. If you visit in the middle of August, you can enjoy the green scenery.
