A special team from the European Union (EU) has come to Nepal to check how safe the aviation here is. They will be working with the Civil Aviation Authority. This team, made up of four experts, will visit different aviation companies and airlines. They want to make sure everything is secure and well-organized. They will also look at airlines that fly to tricky places. This is all part of their job to keep air travel safe.
The EU team will check many things about aviation in Nepal. They’ll look at how companies get their licenses, renew them, and make sure pilots have the right paperwork. After they finish their check, they will write a report and send it to the EU. Only then will they decide if Nepal can be taken off the blacklist or not. This whole process might take until November, sources say.
The team will also look into different parts of aviation like rules, how things are organized, licenses for individuals, how flights are managed, making sure aircraft are safe, investigating accidents, services for air navigation, and the equipment on the ground and at airports.
Nepal got into trouble after a series of plane accidents in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Just last year, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) said Nepal’s safety measures had gotten much better, reaching 70.1%. Even with this improvement, Nepal stayed on ICAO’s list of countries with safety issues because there were still some changes needed in aviation rules and policies.
ICAO originally banned Nepal based on their reports. But in July 2017, Nepal convinced ICAO to lift the ban. Even though Nepal is no longer on the blacklist, Nepali airlines still haven’t been allowed to fly to any EU countries.
