After Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal went to visit China for a week, people are really concerned about the Korala transit point on the border with China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
Even though the Korala transit point hasn’t officially started working, the Prime Minister’s visit to China has given people hope that it might happen soon.
China has done a lot of important things to get the Korala transit point ready, like putting up a fence, making a building in the middle of nowhere, and getting everything ready for customs and security.
Namdu Gurung, who works in the Gandaki Province Assembly, said that China is all set up and ready for the Korala transit, they just need Nepal to make sure everything is safe on their side. They hope they’ll agree on this during the Prime Minister’s visit, because it’s really important for the Gandaki Province’s economy.
The Korala transit point is a big deal for trade and tourism. If it starts working, it could mean more trade and people coming for religious reasons. It’s really important for Mustang and the Gandaki Province.
Even though there’s a marker that says ‘Nepal’ at the border, there’s still a bit of work left on the road. They’ve had some problems with the weather and the river, but they’re almost done.
Tasi Nharbu Gurung, who’s in charge of the Lo Manthang area, said that even though the Korala border is important, they haven’t had their big trade fair for four years.
China wants to open the crossing this year after doing all the work, and that’s made people in Mustang really hopeful. They’re also getting everything ready for customs and security.
They’ve figured out where to put the customs office and tested the soil. The Commerce Ministry paid for all the plans and tests.
They’ve also set up a police post and a border outpost to make sure everything is safe. This is all about making sure the border is secure.
