
Today marks the inauguration of the South Asia International Book Fair 2023 in Kathmandu, a collaborative effort by the Federation of Nepal Books and Stationery Business alongside the Current Media and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ while inaugurating the five-day event, emphasized the imperative need for substantial improvements in the nation’s education system, structural reforms, curriculum enhancements, and work methodologies. Highlighting the government’s dedication to elevating educational standards, he underscored the introduction of the school education bill.
Expressing optimism, Ambassador Chen Song of China to Nepal articulated the book fair’s significance in propagating messages of civilization, peace, development, and the exchange of cross-Himalayan cultures. Reiterating China’s commitment to human civilization’s progression and advancement, he echoed hopes for the fair’s success.
Mayor Dhanraj Acharya of Pokhara Metropolitan City advocated for the formulation of a comprehensive book policy, emphasizing the rejuvenating power inherent in reading.
Furthermore, Dr. Mahashram Sharma, Chairperson of the National Examinations Board (NEB), highlighted Nepal’s potential, being situated between India and China, with a populace inclined towards literary engagement. He stressed the role of fostering a conducive reading culture in propelling the nation’s development and prosperity.
The event also honored Dr. Sanduk Ruit, renowned for his groundbreaking work in restoring sight to the visually impaired. Featuring a diverse array of 180 stalls representing book publishers, producers, and distributors from over 15 countries—including Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh, the United States of America, and Egypt—the book exhibition promises a rich cultural exchange.
This immersive literary event not only fosters a platform for international literary exchange but also serves as a catalyst for cultural dialogue, promoting diverse perspectives and fostering a love for reading among global audiences.
