Bangladesh is acting rapidly to begin construction of the 813-kilometer international bus route that will link Kathmandu and Dhaka. The project includes plans for bus routes to Gangtok, Kolkata, and other places.
The bus service from Dhaka to Kathmandu is an aspect of Bangladesh’s larger plan to build transportation connections along four new routes in India and Nepal. Realizing such services was previously restricted by the Siliguri Corridor’s geographic challenges, but new attempts have been made to get past these roadblocks.
Once operational, the bus services are expected to be particularly beneficial for Nepali students studying in Bangladesh and Bangladeshi tourists visiting Nepal. The rising interest in affordable bus travel has triggered Bangladesh to prioritize international bus services on these new routes.
In addition, a contract for the transportation of cargo in transit has been signed by Bangladesh and Nepal. Nepal may be able to access Bangladesh’s ports at Chittagong and Mongla thanks to this agreement, which would improve trade and regional connectivity.
Bangladesh appears to be moving quickly toward better connectivity between Dhaka and important locations in Nepal and India as it gets ready for these international bus services.
