Investors are putting more money into making Lumbini, where Buddha was born, a better place for tourists. They’ve invested over Rs. 6 billion in tourism there, with Rs. 3 billion just for hotels in Rupandehi. In total, there are about 2,500 hotels in the area, from small ones to fancy ones. The tourism potential of Lumbini is getting noticed, so more investors are building hotels and improving tourist spots there.
Currently, two well-equipped hotels have started operating in Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi from Saturday. The landmark Landmark Hotel and Resort has been operating hotels for the last 32 years in Nepal’s tourism sector in Singapore Colony, Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi. Similarly, a well-equipped ‘The Crown Inn’ hotel has also started operating in Janakinagar, Tilottama. According to the chief executive officer of the hotel, Sian Pandey, a large number of Indian tourists enter Nepal through the main Belahiya checkpoint, about three kilometers away, where the hotel ‘Landmark’ is located on approximately two and a half hectares of land.
He also mentioned that although construction of the Gautam Buddha International Airport has not yet been completed in Bhairahawa, it will operate in the future, and it is anticipated that it will contribute to the development of the tourism sector, creating jobs for Nepali youth. He also stated that even during this economic downturn, new hotels have been operating to create employment opportunities for Nepali youth from domestic investments. He gave a message to the new generation returning from abroad after studying management abroad, to take managerial responsibility for the hotel from domestic investment.
