The Late Babu Chiri Sherpa Open Sport Climbing Competition gets started

The Late Babu Chiri Sherpa Open Sport Climbing Competition has begun.

Nangel Jangbu Sherpa, Chief of Solududhakunda Municipality, officially started the competition at Krimpanji Adventure Hub in Bouddha, Kathmandu.

He mentioned that this event is not just about having fun but also about staying healthy and getting stronger.

26 men and 15 women are taking part in the competition. It’s organized by the Mountain Sports Association and Everest Climbers Association. Nwang Nima Sherpa, President of the Mountain Sports Association, believes it will encourage more people to try mountain sports.

The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association is helping with technical stuff like setting routes, judging, and keeping everyone safe. Men’s and women’s events are held separately, and the top three finishers receive monetary awards.

The judges for the competition are Chiring Zangbu Sherpa, Jamchang Bhote, and Pimba Tenzing Sherpa.

Late Babu Chiri Sherpa was famous for climbing Mount Everest many times. He even set a record by spending more than 21 hours without oxygen at the peak. Regretfully, he died on April 29, 2001, while attempting an 11th climb of Mount Everest.
