Everest Summiter Hikes for Equality: Nepal Tackles Bias

Musikot, Nepal Bam Bahadur BK, from Sanibheri Rural Municipality in Rukum West, Nepal, is not your usual Everest summiteer. Despite joining the 100 climbers who reached the summit on May 19th, his ascent was intended to protest for equality.

BK underlined Nepal’s commitment to an inclusive society, adding that discrimination based on caste, religion, gender, or community is unacceptable in the world. He, who has suffered bias during government transfers, intends to climb the highest summits on all seven continents, using each summit to advocate equality.

“Imagine,” BK wonders, “a world in which reaching new heights unites rather than divides us.” That’s the message I want to spread throughout the world.” He has experienced mountaineering greatness in Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Manaslu, and Lobuche, and is set to climb Europe’s Mount Elbrus in three months, with more peaks expected within two years.

BK’s story is a testament to Nepal’s spirit of adventure and dedication to building a more just society, highlighting the value of equality over the cost of climbing mountains.

Explore the stunning beauty of Nepal, where achieving the summit is linked to a world free from discrimination.
