Nirfu Monastery in Mustang Fully Restored After Earthquake

Nirfu Monastery

Nirfu Monastery is a religious education center. It has been running since 2004, and it now has 60 pupils enrolled in Lama programs that encompass religious studies through the eighth grade.

The famous Nirfu Monastery in Chooser, Mustang, has been completely restored. It had been significantly damaged by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. This old 15th-century landmark, situated within a cave, has been restored to its former beauty. It was all thanks to the German Embassy in Kathmandu. The funds ensured that the monastery’s historic architectural style was carefully maintained during the restoration process.

The newly renovated monastery currently has a main structure with three rooms and is constructing a new library. The monastery remains an important element of the community, with its objective of safeguarding Tibetan Buddhist traditions and education.

Visitors can reach the monastery through a five-minute drive from Nechung on the Beni-Jomsom Korola route. Entrance fees are set at Rs 100 for Nepalese and Rs 1,000 for international tourists, which help to maintain and further preserve this treasured place. The reconstruction of Nirfu Monastery not only protects an important cultural asset but also provides a peaceful retreat for individuals seeking spiritual relief in Mustang’s gorgeous surroundings.
