A new trekking route to Tilicho Lake, the world’s highest glaicer lake at 4,919 meters, has recently opened. This stunning route begins from Thini village in Jomsom’s Mustang area. It goes through breathtaking sites such as Namakhu Lake, Nilgiri Icefall, and Masokondo Pass.
Mohan Singh Lalchan, Chairperson of the Gharapjhong Rural Municipality, expressed his delight at the route’s opening. “Trekkers can now reach Tilicho Lake in just two days from Jomsom. The views along the way are breathtaking,” he said. The trail has already begun to draw domestic tourists eager to discover its natural beauty.
Unlike the traditional track from Manang’s Chame, this new route allows hikers to see unspoiled natural beauty, but they must be prepared. No hotels or restaurants are along the path, so hikers must provide food and lodging by themselves.
Tula Buda Magar from Myagdi, a recent trekker, expressed his experience: “The uphill walk was difficult, but seeing the crystal-clear blue water of Tilicho Lake made it all worthwhile. It was a scene that I will never forget.”
The Gharapjhong local municipality and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) partnered to make this route a reality, investing Rs 6 million. The trail is well-marked with signposts to assist hikers in navigating the journey.
For those seeking a new adventure, this path offers an amazing experience in the heart of Nepal’s breathtaking landscapes.
