Though historical evidence of the Ugratara Temple’s beginnings is limited, the legend surrounding its creation is captivating. The story begins in the old village of Latauli, where members of the Sanki people used to reside and cultivate. According to local legend, a Sanki farmer hit a stone while plowing his field, resulting in a small drop of blood from the stone. The farmer was frightened but humble, so he stopped the bleeding by applying the food he had brought with him. Recognizing the stone’s heavenly character, villagers devoted the location and built the Ugratara Temple around it.

Over the years, the temple received royal attention, including important improvements by Naga Malla, King of Doti. Later, King Birendra of Nepal contributed to the temple’s repair, retaining its value and appeal for generations.
