Yosin Reaches Bhotahity, Marking the Beginning of Indra Jatra in Kathmandu

Today, a special procession with Yosin (Lord Indra’s living goddess) on a chariot started in Chittapole and reached Bhaktapur. This marks the beginning of the big Indra Jatra festival in Kathmandu. Yosin’s journey covered many places like Naalachaap, Tathali, Chyamhasin, Jagati, Suryabinayak, Thimi, Koteshwar, Baneshwar, and Bhadrakali.

Before, they had to use a big machine to move Yosin, which people didn’t like. But this year, with the help of many local groups and organizations, they used traditional ways to bring Yosin to Bhaktapur, which is almost 20 kilometers away from Kathmandu.

This is a very important moment because it shows how people can work together and keep old traditions alive. To show how happy they are, the community will officially welcome Yosin into the city on Saturday, September 23rd, and then the big Indra Jatra festival in Kathmandu will begin.
