“CCTV and drones have been set up for surveillance as Kathmandu is challenged by two protests.”

Special security arrangements have been implemented in the Kathmandu Valley for two concurrent demonstrations scheduled for today: the ‘Saving Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Civil Campaign’ led by medical practitioner Durga Prasain and another demonstration organized by CPN-UML’s youth wing.

A comprehensive security plan, integrating various security forces, has been activated to ensure the safety of these demonstrations and prevent any untoward incidents. Under the leadership of DIG Lalmani Acharya, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office has established a command center, collaborating with the Directorate General of Military Intelligence (DGMI) of the Nepal Army, the Armed Police, the Nepal Police, and the National Investigation Department.

Armed security personnel have been strategically deployed at crucial intersections in Kathmandu, while undercover officers are stationed at the protest sites. The Prasain Group plans rallies from multiple locations, including Sanothimi in Bhaktapur, Gongbu Chowk, Swayambhu, Kalanki, Jawalakhel, Satdobato, Kirtipur’s Tribhuvan University entrance, and Chabahil Chowk. Simultaneously, the CPN-UML’s youth wing will march from Sallaghari in Bhaktapur to Tinkune.

In light of the diverse procession routes along the Ring Road, heightened vigilance has been instated, with plainclothes security personnel embedded within the processions for close monitoring. Furthermore, surveillance through CCTV footage and drone monitoring in Balkhu and Tinkune areas has been arranged.

To maintain public safety, the District Administration Offices of Kathmandu and Lalitpur have issued prohibition orders in specific areas, anticipating traffic disruptions and impacts on the surrounding vicinity.

Anticipating traffic disturbances, the Traffic Police FM has assured the public of continuous updates on road conditions. Some schools reliant on bus transportation have opted to close for the day, ensuring student safety amidst potential disruptions caused by the demonstrations.
