In Chitwan, during the 17th Tourism and Elephant Festival, the Miss Elephant contest began on the festival’s second day in Sauraha. Seven amazing elephants—Selfkali, Samridhikali, Laxmikali, Bijulikali, Ranimayakali, Champakali, and Rimjhimkali—are taking part. Five judges will decide which elephant is the most beautiful based on their eyes, movements, body, following commands, and skin condition. They’ll announce the winners today and give cash prizes of NPR 15,000, NPR 10,000, and NPR 5,000 for the top three elephants. All participants will get encouragement prizes of NPR 1,000 each. Due to fewer tourists because of COVID, only 30 out of 60 elephants are in use now, as some had to go back to India because it was hard to care for them.
