In 2023, the Nepalese government set out to welcome one million tourists, and they almost succeeded. As of midnight on Wednesday, there were more than a million foreign visitors in Nepal, an improvement from the 614,000 foreign visitors who came here the previous year.
The Tourism Board of Nepal is pleased that Nepal had a large number of visitors before COVID-19—1.2 million in 2019. This year, even with some problems, more tourists have been coming, giving hope to everyone.
With only a few days left in the year, they expect even more visitors. According to the government’s plans, one million tourists would arrive this year as of Tuesday night, nearly one million had done so.
COVID made fewer tourists come last year, but things are getting better now, which is really good news compared to last year. Nepal had plenty of tourists before COVID-19 in 2019, and things have improved since then. The tourism office even seeks to surpass the 2019 record for visitor visits in 2024.
The Prime Minister said having more tourists can help Nepal’s economy and even wants to double the number of tourists next year.
Nepal gets visitors from different countries like India, the USA, and China. India sends the most tourists, followed by the USA and China. But fewer Chinese tourists are coming to Nepal for some reasons.
Apart from the UK, these countries also send tourists to Australia, Bangladesh, Germany, Thailand, and South Korea. Recently, Bangladesh has been sending more tourists to Nepal on the first day of Bhadra, about 700 of them have arrived.
