ChindeDanda: Dharan’s Hidden Gem Amazing Tourists with Breathtaking Views

Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-20 has recently emerged as an attractive destination for domestic tourists, especially with the picturesque charm of ChindeDanda (also known as RamiteDanda). The scenic views of Dharan Bazar, along with the exploration of the Terai villages such as Itahari and Charikose Jhadi, make ChindeDanda a preferred destination for over a hundred internal tourists daily.

Those who visit ChindeDanda engage in various activities, including hiking and traveling by car or motorcycle. Upon arrival, many find themselves enjoying leisure time with music and songs in the serene atmosphere of Danda.

The area around ChindeDanda has old settlements of Tamang community, along with Gurung, Rai, Kshetri, and Brahmin settlements. The panoramic view from the top allows a clear sight of Dharan Bazar, and looking north from Dharan reveals Nango Danda. Local residents often refer to this place as ‘ChindeDanda,’ while outsiders initially recognized it as RamiteDanda. The locals now proudly assert that everyone knows it as ChindeDanda.
Local hotels and eateries have started flourishing due to the influx of tourists. Tourists can savor the authentic local cuisine, including Momo, Tongba, Sukuti, Gundruk, and traditional rice dishes. The organic taste of local food adds to the charm of visiting ChindeDanda.

With the support of the State Government, a viewing column was constructed in ChindeDanda a few years ago. Additionally, adventure parks and resorts, such as the ‘Adventure Park and Resort’ have been established in collaboration with Koshi Pradesh Government. Tamang villages also offer homestay experiences for tourists.

The journey from Dharan to ChindeDanda includes both rough and paved roads. While it takes approximately an hour to hike, traveling by motorcycle or car can take between 15 to 20 minutes. After the construction of a bridge over the Sardu River, reaching ChindeDanda has become more convenient. Despite some challenges in road conditions, the beauty of ChindeDanda makes it worth the effort, as emphasized by local businesswoman Vasanti Tamang.

The city’s Mayor, Harka Sampang, is leading efforts to boost tourism in the ChindeDanda area. A statue of the deity Sumnima Paruha, representing the Kirat Rai community, has been proposed to be erected to further promote tourism. Following the installation of the Sumnima Paruha statue, the Mayor is optimistic about the rapid development of tourism in the region.
