
The Gandaki Province aims to make adventurous sports a destination, with the Maldhunga confluence of the Baglung, Kali Gandaki, hosting the first-ever rafting championship. Top Lal Bhushal, head of the Province Sports Council, informed that the first day of the four-day competition organized by the Province Sports Council Gandaki would feature the National Kayak in Salol.
In the national kayaking competition held on Sunday, Tanahun’s Pramod Gurung took the first place with a total time of 86.61 minutes in his two hits. Dambabahadur Purva Chhantel from Udayapur took the second place with a time of 87.02 minutes in the competition, while Shaktikumar Gurung from Chitwan took the third place. He took a total time of 90.1 minutes.
Likewise, Navin Shrestha from Chitwan, who took a time of 91.89 minutes, was fourth. Prashant Rai from Khotang, who took a time of 91.89 minutes, won the fifth place.
A total of 25 competitors participated in the National Kayak Championship. According to adventurous sports coordinator Basanta Raj Dawadi, there will be two other competitions under the adventurous sports on Monday and Tuesday. According to him, there will be a Head to Head race in Salol on Monday and a Down River Race on Tuesday.
There are 12 teams and more than 50 players participating in the rafting and kayaking competitions, said technical coordinator and chief coach Nim Bahadur Magar.
Seven provinces, departmental teams, and other clubs are participating in the competition. Magar said that players who participate in the international competition will also be selected from this competition.
