Swayambhunath is one of the oldest (2000 years old) religious architecture
Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple. It is a serene and sacred site located on a small hillock in the northwest of Kathmandu Valley. This ancient Buddhist stupa was believed to have spontaneously emerged over 2,000 years ago. Also, they hold great religious significance. Swayambhunath has been a symbol of faith and harmony for centuries, blending elements of Buddhism and Hinduism. Its premises encompass shrines, monasteries, and temples, including the renowned Hariti Temple and Shakyamuni Temple. History
It is believed that the hill of Swayambhu originated from a lotus flower that blossomed in the center of this lake.
The hill on which Swayambhunath stands is believed to have been formed when the bodhisattva Manjushri cut a gorge with his sword, draining the lake and making the site accessible to pilgrims.
It is believed that King Vrsadeva, the great-grandfather of King Manadeva, founded Swayambhunath.
