Nepal issues 395 climbing permits for autumn season, generating over Rs 39 million in royalties

The Tourism Department gave permission to 395 climbers for this year’s autumn season. They paid over Rs 39 million for their climbing permits. Most of the money, more than Rs 34 million, came from permits for Mt. Manaslu, which is very high at 8,163 meters.

Here’s a breakdown of the permits: 301 for Mt. Manaslu, 23 for Mt. Dhaulagiri (even taller at 8,167 meters), 10 for Mt. Amadablam (reaching 6,814 meters), and a few for other peaks.

The climbers are from all over the world, with a lot from China, Russia, the US, India, Japan, France, Germany, Spain, the UK, Canada, Iran, and Switzerland.

Last year, 506 climbers from 65 countries got permits to climb 15 mountains in Nepal. For Mt. Manaslu alone, 404 permits were given, bringing in more than Rs 46 million out of the total royalties of over Rs 55 million. Climbing season in Nepal is from September to November.
