Nepalgunj, a diverse city in western Nepal, is known for its harmonious coexistence of Hindu and Muslim communities. Recently, there were concerns about social and religious tensions emerging in the city, but local leaders like Hindu priest Chandranath Yogi and Maulana Jabbar Manjari worked together to maintain peace.
They’ve been instrumental in mediating potential conflicts, particularly during overlapping religious ceremonies. In the past, their joint efforts have prevented clashes, like one in 2016 that resulted in fatalities.
Recently, Facebook posts escalated tensions, leading to stone-throwing and hate slogans. A curfew was imposed, and security forces were deployed to restore order.
Strong friends from the Hindu and Muslim communities, Chandranath Yogi and Maulana Jabbar Manjari, continue to advocate peace, even traveling on a motorcycle tour to protect their community from potential bloodshed. Their commitment to harmony is an inspiration.
