Kathmandu Metropolitan City is setting up a temporary parking area inside the Dharahara area for the upcoming Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals. They will be using the underground parking area of Dharahara, which is still being built, for this purpose. Ramesh Poudel, the project manager of Raman Construction Company, mentioned that this free underground parking service started on Sunday.
This parking area is a collaboration between Ward No. 22 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sankata Club, and the construction company. Although the new Dharahara tower has triple basement parking, only the single underground parking section will be used for free parking during the festivals. This section can accommodate about 100 cars and around 500 motorcycles.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City decided to provide this temporary parking facility because parking becomes a bigger issue during festivals due to more people moving around. Poudel added that this temporary parking will be available until the Chhath festival, after which the construction work on the new Dharahara project will resume. Currently, approximately 90% of the project’s construction work has been completed.
