
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal arrived in Mustang today to participate in a climate change discussion hosted by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) under the National Trust for Nature Conservation. His visit to Mustang commenced when he took a morning helicopter ride, courtesy of the Nepal Army, as informed by Mustang’s Chief District Officer, Janak Raj Pant.
During his visit, Prime Minister Dahal will conduct an aerial inspection of the Korala checkpoint and the areas that were affected by floods, including Kagbeni. It’s noteworthy that Nepal and China recently reached an agreement to establish 14 trade transit points, including the one at Korala in Mustang, during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China.
To prepare for the reopening of the long-closed Korala checkpoint, over 1,000 local residents from Lo Manthang and Lodhekar Damodar Kunda rural municipality have been issued permission cards, granting them access to China.
Kapil Lama, the CPN (Maoist Centre) representative in Mustang, mentioned that the local community aims to discuss various issues with the Prime Minister. These include concerns about the erosion of the Kali Gandaki River, the removal of five villages in upper Mustang from the list of restricted areas, and land-related challenges.
Accompanying Prime Minister Dahal are several ministers, including the Minister for Forest and Environment, the Bagmati Province Minister for Health and Social Development, the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management, as well as House of Representatives member Devendra Poudel, among others.
Following the climate change discussion, Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to address an event organized by his political party in Jomsom as part of the ‘Maoist transformation campaign with the people.
