During this year’s Dashain vacation, Chitwan National Park (CNP) welcomed an impressive influx of over 20,000 tourists, marking a substantial increase in visitor numbers compared to previous years. Of these visitors, 13,233 were local Nepali tourists, contributing to CNP’s revenue of Rs 18.54 million during the festive period.
According to Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the Information Officer of CNP, the park attracted a total of 779 tourists from SAARC countries and 6,048 tourists from various other nations. The primary entry point for most visitors was the Sauraha area, which saw nearly 18,000 tourists exploring the park and participating in 404 exciting jeep safaris. Approximately 1,100 more tourists accessed CNP through the Kasara area, while additional visitors arrived from the Madi area, Amaltari area, and Kujauli area.
Notably, the Sauraha area has experienced a substantial surge in foreign tourists recently, with an average of 1,500 international visitors per day. This surge led to a remarkable 95 percent hotel occupancy in Sauraha, and hotel bookings for December have already reached 75 percent, as tourists continue to flock to the region following the Dashain festival. This surge in tourism highlights the growing appeal of Chitwan National Park as a premier destination.
