The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has set up a three-member committee to assess the viability of constructing an airport in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City. The decision follows the directive from the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati to form a ‘Dharan Airport Construction Study Committee.’ This committee, led by Manager (Engineer) Nal Bikram Thapa and including members Manager Anil Basnet and Bimal Khanal, aims to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the proposed airport. However, the decision has sparked controversy on social media, with concerns raised about the necessity of a new airport in an area already served by the operational Biratnagar Airport.
