The Nepal-China International Mountain Cross Country Race in Pokhara showcased Nepal’s dominance as Suman Kulung, Indrakala Nembang, and Ramesh Limbu’s team clinched the top spot in the 40-km race, securing a prize of Rs 360,000. Following closely, Shrebi Maharjan, Mahesh Tharu, and Basanta Tharu secured second place, while Shreekas Rai, Tilak Sunuwar, and Keshari Thapa Magar claimed third, earning Rs 288,000 and Rs 216,000 respectively.
Co-organized by the Chinese Embassy, Pokhara Metropolitan City, and Nepal Tourism Board, this event saw spirited participation. Homlal Shrestha, among Nepal’s athletes, emerged victorious in the 38-km race, receiving a cash prize of Rs 144,000.
In a bid for shared prosperity, the Nepal-China International Mountain Cross Country Competition, comprising group and individual competitions, a happy run, and a student-run, covered 40 kilometers through running, cycling, and boating. The scenic route spanned Barahighat in Lakeside, Birauta, Furse Khola, Ramadi, Ulleri, Bhumdi, Lukunswarna, and Lichibot, concluding at Barahighat.
Graced by Gandaki’s Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, Chinese Ambassador Chen Song, and Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya at the inauguration, the event aimed to boost Pokhara’s global prominence and enhance sports tourism. Ambassador Song highlighted the event’s role in fostering the enduring ties between Nepal and China, citing the success of the Nepal China Dragon Boat Festival which attracted more Chinese tourists to Pokhara.
