A significant push for regular international flights from Bhairahawa’s Gautam Buddha International Airport has been underscored by a delegation, urging swift action from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and government officials.
Today, a memorandum was submitted to Pradeep Adhikari, CAAN’s Director General, by a Lumbini Province delegation, stressing the immediate need for consistent international flight operations from the airport. Adhikari affirmed CAAN’s commitment to ensuring the establishment of regular international routes.
In a separate meeting with Nepal Representatives of the Asian Development Bank, the delegation reemphasized this critical demand, underlining the necessity of ADB’s support for sustaining international flight operations at Gautam Buddha International Airport.
Sagar Adhikari, the outgoing Chairperson of CAAN Lumbini Province, highlighted the imperative role of ADB’s involvement in facilitating consistent international flight services.
Additionally, the delegation has urged Sudan Kirati, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, to prioritize the establishment of regular international flights at the airport.
This urgent appeal stems from the substantial investments made by tourism entrepreneurs in the Bhairahawa and Lumbini regions to develop tourism infrastructure following the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport. However, the lack of full-scale operation has rendered their investments futile, necessitating the immediate implementation of regular international flight services.
The collective plea from stakeholders underscores the crucial economic impact and potential growth opportunities that hinge upon the uninterrupted functioning of international flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport.
