The bridge over the Tamor River, meant to link Terhathum and Panchthar districts, is taking way longer than expected to build. It’s been 12 years since they started, and it’s still only halfway done. Because of this, people from Kummayak in Panchthar have to trek for hours every week to reach Myanglung in Terhathum to sell their goods and buy essentials.
The bridge was supposed to make things easier, but it’s been slow progress. They signed a deal in 2011 to finish it by 2018, but it’s only half done, with just four out of five pillars built. The officials now say they need until 2024 to complete it.
The company building the bridge blames the delay on not having a proper road initially. Some locals have complained to the authorities about this, and people in Myanglung are pushing hard to get the bridge finished soon.
