Selfiekali won a special beauty contest for elephants held in Sauraha, Chitwan. She walked with pride down a runway, showing off her moves and colorful decorations.
Dr. Bijay Shrestha, the judge, said picking the prettiest elephant is tough, but Selfiekali won based on the criteria. The contest aimed to bond elephants and people and attract tourists.
Selfiekali, 17, won Rs. 15,000, beating seven others. Rimjhimkali came second, winning Rs. 10,000, and Sambridikali came third with Rs. 5,000.
Different elephants like Laxmikali, Bijulikali, Ranimayakali, and Champakali also took part. Selfiekali’s mahout praised her discipline and said she listens well to commands.
The contest checked the elephants’ cleanliness, health, and grooming. They were painted beautifully, making them look like living art.
The event, held in Sauraha, aims to promote tourism by showcasing elephants in different roles beyond jungle safaris.
