In 2023, a special place called Mustang welcomed a lot of tourists about 90,356 from different countries. That’s more than the year before by around 24,245 visitors. The roads have gotten better there, making it a really great spot for trekking. Plus, more people are learning about this place because it’s being promoted well. Even when the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, visited Muktinath, it got more folks interested in coming here.
Back in 2022, about 65,940 tourists came, which was already a big increase from the years before when only a couple of thousand visited. Before the Covid situation, usually not more than 60,000 people came to Mustang in a year.
In 2023, most of the visitors were from countries in the SAARC region about 72,190 of them. And 18,166 tourists came from other countries. Some, around 10,733, reached Mustang by going through Manang via Thorang La.
People from other countries need to pay $500 for a seven day visit to Upper Mustang. But those from SAARC nations pay Rs 1,000 each, and visitors from other countries pay Rs 3,000 to explore the ACAP(Annapurna Conservation Area Project) area.
