Plans for permanent control of Gaza have been denied by Israel’s Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, stated that his country has no intention of taking over Gaza or driving out the Palestinian people. He said this in response to inquiries from around the world regarding Israel’s actions during the most recent Gaza conflict.

Netanyahu clarified, “Israel has no intention to keep control of Gaza forever or remove its citizens.” He defended Israel’s actions, saying they targeted members of the Hamas group during airstrikes and emphasized Israel’s commitment to following international laws.

He explained, “Israel’s military tried to avoid harming civilians, but Hamas used Palestinian civilians as shields to protect their positions.” Netanyahu added, “Our goal is to free Gaza from the ‘terrorist’ fighters of Hamas and release our captives.”

In October, Hamas started an attack, leading to increased conflict resulting in about 790 deaths, including 200 Israelis and over 132 Palestinians held captive. The health ministry in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, reported 23,357 Palestinian casualties and around 19,000 people displaced among Gaza’s population of 2.3 million.
