The Kali Gandaki Corridor, recognized as the ‘Life Line’ of Gandaki Province and a national pride, still has 25% of its construction work pending on the Burtibang–Jomsom–Korala road project.
The Kali Gandaki Corridor, located approximately 435 kilometers away from both India and China, is considered crucial for the development of physical, economic, commercial, hydroelectric, tourism, and religious sites in Gandaki Province. The black line of the Kali Gandaki River has been acknowledged as the fortune line of Gandaki Province.
The project, which started in the fiscal year 2073/74 to connect the Mustang region in China, spanning a distance of 235 kilometers from the Mal Dhunga of the mountains to the Simana of Korala, involves constructing a two-lane blacktop and a tunnel in Gharaunja. The project has achieved 75% physical progress so far.
“In the gravel section, 85 kilometers of the tunnel and 19 kilometers of the road have been blacktopped,” he said, “13 concrete bridges and three Bailey bridges have been constructed as per the plan.”
The estimated cost for this project is over NPR 7.55 billion, and the expenditure has exceeded NPR 8 billion until the fiscal year 2079/80. The challenging geographical conditions and the scarcity of construction materials near the river have caused delays.
The project is facing challenges due to the lack of construction materials near the river and adverse geographical conditions.
