In a significant development, the blacktopping process has kicked off in the western section of Tanahun under the ongoing Muglin-Pokhara road expansion project. The roadwork spans from Shuklagandaki municipality-2, Haledi, under the jurisdiction of Jamune-Pokhara.
About 420-meter one-way blacktopping was successfully completed on the first day, Thursday. The ambitious goal is to complete the one-way blacktopping for a five-kilometer stretch by March 13. The blacktopping initiative will extend to areas such as Jamune of Myagde rural municipality and Belchautara of Shuklagandaki municipality starting today.
The Muglin-Pokhara road project is utilizing advanced asphalt technology for the blacktopping process. The construction work in the western section, spanning from Jamun to Pokhara, commenced on August 29, 2021, following the agreement signed on May 14, 2021. The Chinese company, Yanhui Kaiyun Highway and Bridge Construction, secured the contract for this section with an estimated cost of Rs 7.40 billion, and the deadline for completion is set for August 2024.
In addition, approximately 20 kilometers of the eastern section have already undergone blacktopping. The contract for the eastern section was awarded to China Communications Construction, with a deadline set for mid-May 2024.
