Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition (Top Rope Edition) has concluded in Kathmandu for the first time. On the male side, Sajan Lama became the first, and on the female side, Srijana Tamang became the first. Men’s and women’s divisions competed in an open climbing competition (top rope edition) at Krimpanji Adventure Hub in Bauddha. There were twenty women and 38 men competing.
Prena Rai and Yangla Bhote took second and third place for women, and Dipan Gurung and Bijay Sunar took second and third place for men. Sonam Gelzen Sherpa, a member of the National Assembly, and Kancha Sherpa, a member of the 1953 Everest climbing team, officially opened the program. In addition, Tankalal Ghising, member secretary of the National Sports Council, awarded cash prizes and hanging batches to the first, second, and third place winners.
The winner will also receive a one-night stay at the Annapurnaview Hotel Sarangkot. The US Nepal Climbers Association and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association collaborated to organize the event, according to Pasang Nima Sherpa, president of the US Nepal Climbers Association, in order to promote climbing as a sport.
The former president and founder of the US Nepal Climbers Association, Serap Zangbu Sherpa, predicted that this competition will inspire more people to pursue climbing. He said that since that group has been in charge of the Top Rope Edition in America as well, they have collaborated with the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association to arrange the competition in Nepal this time.
