Manang, in Gandaki Province, is finally getting connected to the road network after decades. Currently, there’s no proper road access to Narphu, posing challenges for locals who often face a three-day trek to reach Chame, the district headquarters. This lack of roads also affects healthcare access, with patients needing emergency evacuation to Kathmandu by helicopter.
Local Sonam Tenjing Lama highlights the struggles and the reliance on makeshift trails. The road construction, with a budget of NPR 155 million, faces delays due to the tough terrain and winter weather, but efforts have increased since February.
The project, led by Narphu Valley Rural Municipality Chair Konjo Tenjing Lama, not only focuses on road expansion but also plans for motorable bridges over rivers. The community is hopeful, expecting improved connectivity and safer travel once the project is completed.
