Camping Sites Near Kathmandu valley

Phulchoki

About 20 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu, Phulchoki is located away from the Mahabharat Range. Reachable via a short drive or an uphill hike, this hilltop offers amazing views of the valley and surrounding peaks.

Significance:

  • Scenic Paradise: Ascend to the 2,762-meter summit for incredible views of Mount Everest, Annapurna, and the Himalayas.
  • Nature’s Armour: Explore the magnificent rhododendron forests, which are home to a wide variety of unique plants and animals. This is nature’s armor.

Phulchoki’s spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) camping seasons are the greatest. The weather throughout these seasons is pleasant for both daily activities and sleeping at night.

There are several certified campsites with basic shelters, restrooms, and fire pits.  Keep in mind that leaving no trace and packing exactly what you need is part of good camping manners.

Shivapuri National Park

Shivapuri Hill (2,732 meters) and Nagarjun Hill (2,091 meters) are both located in this national park, which spans about 159 square kilometers north of Kathmandu.

Significance:

  • Biodiversity Hotspot: See animals like eagles and incredibly rare red pandas while traveling through the jungle, and different beautiful plant life.
  • Spiritual Retreat: Take in the beautiful stone statue of Lord Vishnu at the historic Budhanilkantha Temple, or find peace in quiet monasteries.

The greatest times of year to camp at Shivapuri National Park are in the fall (September–November) and spring (March–May). You should anticipate great weather, clear skies, and colorful views during these months.

Several designated campsites within the park offer basic amenities like shelters and water access. Permits are required, so plan and book your spot in advance.

Kakani

The beautiful village of Kakani is located roughly 22 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu, set within the Mahabharat Range. Kakani is reachable via a lovely drive or a strenuous trek. It gives you peaceful surroundings, incredible views, and perfect natural beauty.

Significance:

  • Mountain Views: Beautiful views of several mountain ranges, including Manaslu, Langtang, and Annapurna, are available.  These will make for an incredible setting for your camping adventure.

Nagarkot is a hillside located 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu that provides lovely views of the Himalayan range, including Mt. Everest on clear days. This popular vacation destination offers a combination of natural beauty and cultural experiences.

Significance:

  • Sunrise wonder: Take in the beautiful scene as the sun rises over the snow-covered Mountains. Witness the great beauty of nature as it transforms the mountains into striking colors that will remain in your mind.

In Nagarkot, spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are the top seasons for camping. Lovely weather, clear skies, and a view of the rising sun are all present during these seasons. Namobuddha

Located among the hilly landscape of the Mahabharat Range, Namobuddha is a peaceful village about 35 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu Valley. Namobuddha is reachable via a great drive or a hike. It provides a unique combination of deep spiritual significance and outstanding natural beauty.

Significance:

  • Spiritual Sanctuary: One of Nepal’s most well-known Buddhist pilgrimage sites is Namobuddha. Take in the peaceful areas and observe the majestic Thubten Chorten Stupa, a white dome decorated with prayer flags.
  • Views Across the Region: Climb to the top of the hill for incredible panoramas across the area, that on clear days even the distant Himalayas.
  • Cultural Tapestry: Visit the Namobuddha Monastery, witness traditional prayer services, and interact with the friendly locals while taking in the sights and sounds of the Tibetan culture found in the area.

September through November and March through May are the perfect season to camp at Namobuddha. These seasons provide the finest chance to take in the area’s spiritual and cultural value, as well as perfect weather and clear scenery.
