Women’s Day Observance Planned at Sagarmatha Region by Sath Sathai Organization

This year’s International Women’s Day celebration will take place in Kalapathhar, an area of Nepal close to Mount Everest, thanks to the efforts of Sath Sathai, an organization that works for women’s rights and addresses climate change.

Their mission is to increase public awareness of the serious effects of climate change in the Sagarmatha region as well as the difficulties that the locals—women in particular—face. On March 8th, women from various backgrounds will come together for a unique occasion.

There will be talks about how climate change is affecting the area with local leaders during the event. The organization has selected Kalapathhar as the venue for its International Women’s Day celebration for three years running, with a focus on raising awareness of the problems that melting snow has caused in mountain communities and coming up with solutions.

On February 29, a group of twenty-five women from a variety of sectors will set off for Kalapathhar, with stops planned in Lukla and Syangboche. The purpose of the trip is to discuss women’s empowerment and its relationship to minimizing climate change with local representatives and communities. On March 8th, they will ultimately arrive in Kalapathhar.

The goal of this event is to grow the awareness public of the damages that climate change is making in the communities and rural areas as well as in the NGOs and tourism agencies. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Invest in Women: We identify ourselves as the “Change Agents” with the slogan “Accelerating Innovation”.
