The Bharatpur Tourism Year is starting on Falgun 18th, and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will be there. More than 50,000 locals will join the opening ceremony by the Narayani River. Bharatpur wants to boost tourism in 2024, but because of delays, the opening got moved to March 1st or Falgun 18th. It’s going to be a big celebration by the river.
Mayor Renu Dahal invited lots of important people, like former prime ministers and ministers, to the opening ceremony.Prior to the inauguration ceremony, a rally with displays from all wards of the metropolis will march towards the Narayani River.
During the Tourism Year opening, Mayor Dahal said that different cultural groups and organizations will share their traditions. She expects over 50,000 people to join the ceremony, including folks from all parts of the city, nearby towns, and other districts.
There will be music performances by national and local artists by the river before and after the official events. They’ve picked out seven main spots in the city and are promoting 21 more places. They’ll use the main spots to talk about and advertise the other places.
To ensure the success of the Tourism Year, a 2,024-member organizing committee has been formed under the coordination of Mayor Dahal. This committee includes a seven-member steering committee under the coordination of Mayor Dahal, a 19-member executive committee under the coordination of Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari, a one hundred and one-member advisory committee, and twenty-nine sub-committees.
Various programs during the Tourism Year will be organized in cooperation with the local, provincial, and federal governments. The deputy mayor informed that more than Rs. 100 million will be spent from the government treasury on the Tourism Year. Additionally, Bagmati Province government has pledged Rs. 20 million for this purpose. Physical infrastructure construction for tourism has also been undertaken by the metropolitan city as part of the preparedness for the Tourism Year.
The deputy mayor also informed that Rs. 6.5 million has been allocated by the Tourism Board.
Mayor Dahal stated that more than 50 local, national, and international-level programs will be organized during the Tourism Year. The historic Durbar Square will be open to the general public, and renovation work will continue even after the inauguration of the Tourism Year. Similarly, the rare one-horned rhinoceros will be put on display in a newly built enclosure before the inauguration.
The metropolitan city has spent Rs. 10 million to build roads for easy access to the enclosure, which also houses deer. Dahal stated, “Now tourists coming here will not return without seeing rhinos and deer in the enclosure.”
For the convenience of tourists visiting the enclosure, a road has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 10 million. The enclosure for the rhinos has been built by the zoo itself.
