Manthali-Lukla Flights Resumed After Week-long Closure

Flights between Manthali and Lukla had to stop for a week due to bad weather before they were restarted. Lukla Airport was closed due to extreme weather in the Solukhumbu district. Because of Lukla’s better weather, flights have resumed.

Planes from Sita, Tara, and Summit Airlines were unable to take off during the closure of Lukla Airport, therefore they had to land at Manthali. Some tourists opted to travel by road to Phaplu and others by helicopter to Surke to facilitate their transfer to Lukla.

Pravin Subedi, who’s in charge of Tara Air in Ramechhap, said flights to Lukla started again because the weather there got better.

Travelers are traveling by road from Kathmandu to Manthali to reach Lukla since the weather is improving.

According to Prajwal Guragain, a senior officer at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal in Ramechhap, they intend to run flights between Manthali and Lukla all day today, but it depends on the weather.
