Discussion between Nepal and Switzerland Mutual Cooperation for Tourism and Trade

BCM Meeting – a new mechanism of bilateral consultations between Nepal and Switzerland just took place in Switzerland. They deliberated on the different dimensions of the inter-country bond, these include economic ties, development partnerships, and joint efforts for global-level issues of margin like climate change and human rights.

The meeting was around when the two nations could agree on the frequent exchanges of delegations, nepal’s transition from least developed country (LDC) and the development progress towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals. The two leaders also deliberated on the different modes of enhancing investment flows, boosting trade, tourism advancement, scientific and technological cooperation, and the promotion of vocational education and training.

The conference was hosted in Bern city on the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs land (FDFA) of Switzerland. Nepal was represented by the team headed by Mr. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, who currently is ministerial division chief at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is on the continent of Europe-Americas. A team of individuals from Switzerland was led by Heinrich Schellenberg, Assistant State Secretary for Asia and the Pacific within FDFA, and other involved officials of SDC.

Joint Secretary Dhakal requested that the Swiss side urge its investors to attend the next Investment Summit in Nepal, which will take place in Kathmandu, during the meeting.

The Nepali government conveyed its appreciation to the Swiss government for its continuous support of Nepal’s development initiatives. They also expressed gratitude for giving Nepal priority when it comes to Swiss Development Cooperation.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Nepal-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations Mechanism has met twice a year, with the next meeting scheduled for mutually convenient dates in Kathmandu.
