The Nepal Army intends to remove ten tons of trash from Mount Everest

The Nepali Army is going to clean up Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, and Mount Nuptse as part of the Clean Himalaya Campaign-2024 this year. They aim to gather 10 tonnes of trash and remove up to five dead bodies from the mountains. Trained army personnel will collect garbage from the Base Camp to the Fourth Camp on Mount Everest.

Brigadier General Sanjaya Deuja, the Director of the Clean Himalaya Campaign, mentioned that 12 trained army members will be involved. Ten will work above the Base Camp, while two will coordinate from Namche. Additionally, 18 Sherpas will assist in the waste collection process.

The Campaign’s head, Major Aditya Karki, announced that they intend to clean up Mount Everest up to 8,000 meters in altitude. The cleaning project will begin on April 11 and run for fifty days, concluding on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024.
