Historic Thanthu Durbar in Bhaktapur Undergoes Reconstruction

The Bhaktapur municipality plans to hold a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the renovation of Thanthu Durbar, an architectural marvel from the Malla dynasty that dates back 346 years in Nepal.

The Nepal Workers Peasants Party Secretary and lawmaker Prem Suwal underlined the necessity of continuing to excavate 99 thoroughfares in Bhaktapur Durbar, the significance of expertly evaluating the safety of century-old houses and the preservation of their original character during heritage reconstruction.

Bhaktapur municipality’s mayor, Sunil Prajapati, and coordinator of the Thanthu Durbar Reconstruction Direction Committee emphasized the municipality’s history with Thanthu Durbar, which dates its operations back before 2072 BS. He also stated that the reconstruction is a high priority and is expected to cost Rs 128.5 million.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Bagmati Province Assembly member Srijana Sainju, Deputy-Mayor of Bhaktapur municipality, Rajani Joshi, and Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, Roshani Kumari Shrestha, among other dignitaries.
