Kathmandu, nepal– MCA-Nepal, known as the Millennium Challenge Account-Nepal, has signed a contract to build a new 400 kV substation at Sunwal Municipality, Nawalparasi district. The contract was awarded to Linxon India Pvt. Ltd. This estimated time for project culmination is 39 months.
The signing of the contract represents the most important milestone in the project, intending to reinforce Nepal’s power transmission network. The newly constructed Butwal Substation would be of great help in upgrading the reliability and efficiency of power distribution in the locality.
The New Substation in Butwal is one of the three 400kV substations to be built by MCA-Nepal under the Electricity Transmission Project. The other two substation are going to be built in Tanahun and Nuwakot.
NEA head Kulman Ghising who was also present at the event stated that” this project will supplement the existing infrastructure and enhance the cross-border energy trade”.
The Electricity Transmission Project is a joint work by MCA – Nepal and the Government of Nepal, assisted by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). It is the project that could strengthen the social economic development of the country by boosting the level of reliable and affordable energy provision.
This new substation is equipped with Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) technology. This will benefit various sectors:
- Households: More reliable and affordable electricity for domestic consumption.
- Businesses: Increased power supply to support commercial and industrial activity.
- Trade: Improved capacity for cross-border electricity trading.
The construction of the New Butwal Substation marks the on-going achievement of MCC in Nepal. This project will play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s power grid and ensuring a more stable and secured electricity supply.
